What is a peptide?

A peptide is a short chain of tiny pieces called amino acids.

That is the whole definition people need on a first read. Amino acids are the small molecules that link up to make proteins. The National Human Genome Research Institute says a peptide is that short chain, usually 2 to 50 of those pieces, hooked together by a bond. A longer chain is a different word. Their page is Peptide. People use "peptide" for a lot of products that are not the same thing. A scoop of collagen powder and a face cream are the two that ordinary health pages mean. Neither one is a research vial. That split is collagen powder and a face cream.

• Insulin is a peptide. It is an old prescription drug.
• The ingredient in Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus is semaglutide. That is a peptide made as a medicine. Sema on this shop is not those pens or that pill.

• BPC is BPC-157. Wolverine, GLOW, and KLOW are nicknames for blends in one vial. The label note is Wolverine, GLOW, and KLOW.
