People use "counterfeit" and "grey market" like they mean the same thing. They don't. One is a fake. The other is a real product sold through a different channel. If you buy research peptides, you need to know which is which.
What counterfeit means
A counterfeit is a product that says it's something it isn't. It's misrepresented on purpose. That can look like:
- The wrong compound. The label says one peptide. The vial holds something else, or nothing useful at all.
- Underdosed vs the label. The vial says 10mg and holds a lot less.
- A copied brand. A pharma company's name, logo, or pen-style packaging slapped on a product that company never made.
- A fake test report. A lab report that was edited, borrowed from another product, or never ran at all.
Counterfeits are built to fool you. That's the whole business model.
What grey market means
Grey market is different. The product is what the label says it is, but it's sold outside the usual pharmacy-and-doctor route. Research peptides are a common example: they're sold for laboratory research only, not as medicine, and not through a prescription.
Grey market doesn't mean fake. It means you're not buying a prescription drug, and you shouldn't be told you are.
How to tell the difference
- Ask the seller for a COA and check that it matches the vial. The product name, batch, and amount on the report should match the label. A generic report with no batch tie-in proves very little.
- Check that the mg on the label matches the test. If the vial says 10mg, the tested amount should land close to 10mg.
- Be suspicious of pharma names, logos, or pen packaging on a research product. A research vial dressed up as a brand-name medicine is a red flag, not a selling point.
- Be suspicious of prices that are way too cheap. Real material costs money. A price far below everyone else usually means something got cut.
