Retatrutide is still not approved

A single retatrutide research vial, not a Lilly pen and not an approved medicine

Reta is retatrutide. Some posts say GLP-3. Lilly says that nickname is sloppy. Lilly calls it a triple agonist. One molecule. It acts on the receptors for GIP, GLP-1, and glucagon. Lilly is the company studying it. The FDA has not approved it.

Lilly's FAQ, updated in September 2026, says retatrutide is investigational and is not currently approved by the FDA. Lilly also says no regulatory agency has approved it. A launch waits on the trials and on a regulator actually saying yes. A plan is not a yes. The page is What to know about retatrutide.

A filing date is not a decision

Lilly has said it plans to submit a biologics license application to the FDA in the first quarter of 2027. That line is in Lilly's July 23, 2026 release on the TRIUMPH-2 and TRIUMPH-3 trials. AJMC repeated it. First quarter of 2027 means the company intends to hand the FDA a package then. The FDA still has to review it. Review is not approval. A press release cannot put an approved pen on a shelf.

The trials are the package Lilly is pointing at. AJMC, citing Lilly, reported the topline Phase 3 figures. In TRIUMPH-2, adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity or overweight lost up to an average of 20.8 percent of body weight at 80 weeks on the highest dose studied, with A1C reductions of up to 1.6 points. In TRIUMPH-3, adults with severe obesity and established cardiovascular disease lost up to an average of 22.6 percent at 80 weeks. Major cardiovascular events were numerically fewer than on placebo. That gap was not statistically significant. The common side effects were diarrhea, nausea, constipation, and less appetite. Those are trial results. They are not a schedule for you. This shop will not turn them into one.

Lilly's FAQ still says the molecule in those trials is not a public product. Lilly says anything sold for people to take outside its trials is not an approved medicine, and that an outside product can be the wrong ingredient or the wrong amount. Read that as Lilly guarding Lilly's drug. It is also a plain fact about approval. There is no FDA-approved retatrutide.

August 2026 was a narrow door

In August 2026, Lilly opened a small early-access program while the drug was still unapproved. AJMC reported it on August 5, 2026. Lilly confirmed the program on August 3. It grew from one compassionate-use case in April 2026. A 79-year-old patient, referred by an NIH clinician, with refractory obesity, obstructive sleep apnea, and pulmonary hypertension. Other doctors asked why their own patients could not get the same thing. AJMC described weeks of silence and vague replies.

The public rules do not even match. AJMC said a source familiar with the program, talking to STAT, described patients 18 or older, unable to join a trial, with refractory obesity and at least two serious complications, after standard options were discussed. Reuters, quoted in the same AJMC piece, said the patient had to have refractory obesity despite the highest approved dose of an obesity drug. AJMC left the conflict standing. Either version is a narrow exception run by Lilly. It is not a coupon. It is not the FDA approving the drug. It is not this vial.

You do not have to like the narrowness. A company choosing a few patients is not a fair counter, and it is not your doctor. It is also not a reason to pretend a research vial is the trial drug. Different object. Different label. The sizes sold here, and the fact that the FDA has not approved the molecule, are on one vial of reta and on the reta page.

Adults can read a short timeline and decide for themselves. Not approved. A filing planned for the first quarter of 2027. A narrow Lilly program opened in August 2026, with criteria the reports still describe differently. None of those sentences is "the FDA approved retatrutide."

What the peptide coverage said, and did not say

CNN, Fox, and NPR wrote at length in 2026 about BPC-157, TB-500, KPV, and MOTS-c. Those July lists do not include retatrutide. The opened CNN features treat Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound as approved peptide medicines in a different category. They do not walk through Lilly's retatrutide trials. Those quotations are in What CNN, Fox, and the other outlets wrote. A CNN story on weight-loss smuggling in Brazil mentions a product sold as retatrutide. That page was not opened in full here, so its sentences are not quoted. Lilly's pages above remain the source for the filing date and the unapproved status.

Vials on singlevialpeptides are research material, for adults 21 and older, not for people or animals.
